Located at the bottom of the famous Mermaid Street in the heart of the historic town of Rye the Old Borough Arms was built in 1720 on top of parts of the old town wall, and next to where the Strand gate once stood.

Over the years the Old Borough Arms has become a landmark of Rye as it sits at the bottom of Mermaid Street on The Strand, looking out towards the river Rother.

There are nine individual bedrooms plus a three - bedroom suite “The Tilling Suite” which is ideal for families who need a bit of extra space.

We serve a delicious breakfast that is included in the price if you book directly with us “book now” and there is a lovely terrace where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or evening drinks from the small but well stocked bar.

These days a part of the original building on the Strand is the delightful Mermaid Street Café which serves everything from delicious breakfasts baps, excellent coffee, our ever - popular homemade scotch eggs & sausage rolls and some of the best ice cream you are likely to taste from the famous ice cream window!
